So You Want A Miracle?

Interestingly, what is coveted (miraculous) is often accessed by what is detested (submission).

Miracles defy logic. Miracles fly in the face of science. To put it bluntly, they make no sense. At least, humanly. If the miracle itself is so opposed to the philosophical view of humanity, should we be shocked that the method of attaining said miracle would be equally confrontational?
In Luke 9, the multitude had gathered to hear Jesus teach and perform miracles. The lure of the Teacher was such that the crowd pursued Him into a wilderness setting without giving any thought to carrying the necessary provision with them to meet their natural needs. As the day was winding down, they were hungry -- and had no food.
When the disciples raised this disconcerting situation to Jesus, He told them to make the people sit in groups of 50. Don't overlook this. Jesus didn't tell the people to sit down... He told the disciples to tell the people to sit down. Delegated Authority.
Serious, logical questions arise from this biblical account. What difference does it make if we are standing or sitting, Jesus? And, why in groups of 50? Is there something about being seated in groups of 50 that unleashes Your miraculous power? If you are going to break the bread and multiply the fish, can't you do it while we are milling around as a multitude? Sit down? Really?
It was not until they were seated that Jesus began to break the bread.
Just Do What He Says
Scripture is replete with examples that inextricably correlate submission with the miraculous. Go wash in the pool, blind man. Take away the stone, servants. Go get water when you are running out of wine at the governors feast. And, yes, as Mary said: "Whatsoever He saith unto you, DO IT!"
Society loves miracles, even though they don't understand them.
Society despises submission, even though it doesn't truly understand it.
What a dichotomy -- what is so coveted by society is only accessed by what is detested. We talk more about it in today's episode.
